I recently bought a Nutri Ninja and I LOVE it! When you have diabetes, you learn quickly that fruit juice is an emergency beverage, because 1 cup will raise your sugar quicker than anything. Those days that you have forgotten to eat or those times you accidentally take too much insulin would be the emergencies here, and some orange juice will hook you up. Fruit juice that is processed (meaning every kind of juice you buy at the grocery store) and fruit juice from a juicer has the same affect on your liver and pancreas to varying degrees, the home made kind from a juicer does not have any added processed sugar, but it also has no fiber. Fiber is super important, did you know that?
What does this have to do with a smoothie recipe, you ask? I’m getting to that …stay with me here while I explain…
When you drink fruit juice, pop, Crystal Light or Gatorade or ANYTHING full of sugar (natural sugar from the food item or processed white sugar and/or high fructose corn syrup) it goes into your stomach and triggers your pancreas, which produces insulin. These drinks will cause spikes in your blood sugar, which causes your pancreas to release more and more insulin and that produces extra weight on your beautiful body when you keep flooding it with the sweet stuff. Whether or not you have diabetes, you want fiber with that juice because it will slow down the stomach process which will keep your blood sugar from spiking and help release the correct amount of insulin. After years of drinking such sugary drinks, your pancreas finally says “You know what? I’m so tired” and guess what? You have to inject insulin because it gets burned out from cranking insulin constantly – yes – non diabetics still have insulin in their body. I just wanted to make that note because just recently sometime tried to tell me that normal people don’t have insulin, just the diabetics — but we won’t go there…
Which leads us right here, to this post and this recipe. My new Ninja came with a book of recipes, so I am going to share them with you! Yay! I have created some graphics to help you identify what each recipe is good for but all of the drink photography was scanned right out of the book. This one is good for Beauty & Longevity as well as Mood & Immunity.
Enjoy!
