Meet the garden! These rows of water are doing exactly what they were designed for – keeping the roots from rotting. We had a huge storm last night and without these ditches, our 3 kinds of potatoes would drown and rot.
This is is the other side where we have 8 raised boxes for strawberries, herbs, onions and a few other delicious morsels. You can also see the little retention pond my hubby put in – we have water when we need it. You see, we have water problems here at Casa De Miller and a flooding garden is just the tip of the iceberg. Our house sits on 2 acres of land that floods whenever we get rain and our side yard turns into Lake Miller. Gardening in the past has been heartbreaking, my corn gets blown down, my veggies just rot or die because of the drought conditions Ohio is famous for and every year it is a battle to keep anything alive. Hopefully, this year will be different.
I’ll be posting more about my garden this year and hope to have lots and lots of goodies to share from recipes to info about preserving – so stay tuned!
